Marcionism said that there are two gods: The OT God (Demiurge=Maker/Creator) on the one hand, and Jesus on the other. (Or Jesus and the Father together as one on the other). So the OT God is seen as inconsistent, bad, etc. Jesus is seen as Good/Benevolent. Instead of being called Christos (Annointed One) he was called Chrestos (Good One / Benevolent One). The idea is Jesus came down and did miracles to rile up the OT God who unjustly had him killed when he was only doing good, so that Jesus could then basically blackmail him into accepting a deal along the lines of "Accept my death as a sacrifice for sins and as a ransom payment for all who will believe in me, and release their souls to me at the point of death." The OT God accepted, and thus Jesus came to purchase all believers from the OT God and can save us from the inconsistent OT God at the point of death. Why did we need to be saved from the Creator?
